DAY 1 Johannesburg - Historical Tour

Arrive at O. R. Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg. On arrival you will be met by a local representative and depart for a historical tour of greater Johannesburg. Soweto is the largest black urban settlement in South Africa, with over 2 million residents. Created in the 1930s, Soweto grew in the 1950s after the Apartheid government's Group Areas Act forced all African citizens out of the inner city and into the areas allocated to them. Being the centre of the struggle against this government and similar laws, Soweto has a rich political history. Some of the highlights of this tour will be a visit to the Hector Pieterson Memorial and Museum, commemorating the student uprisings of the 1970s; and Vilikazi Street, which has the houses of 2 Nobel Peace Prize winners, Nelson Mandela and Archbishop Desmond Tutu. Our tour continues to Gold Reef City. This amusement park reflects the life and times of Johannesburg's gold rush era, staff are dressed in period costumes of the 1880s and the design of the buildings also mimic this age. Here you will have the unique opportunity to descent into the mine that once held the world record for the amount of gold recovered. This mine once reached depths of over 3km; you will descend to a depth of 220m. Included as part of the experience is a gold pour and a traditional mine worker gum boot dance. The theme park also offers a range of rides to appeal to young and old, with several 'white-knuckle' rides for the thrill seekers, as well a range of restaurants to cater for all tastes. After the tour you will be dropped at your hotel in Sandton where you will spend the evening.
DAY 2 Johannesburg - Sun City via Pretoria City Tour

After breakfast check out and depart for Sun City via Pretoria for an orientation tour. Pretoria is the Administrative Capital of South Africa and is also commonly known as the Jacaranda City, after the beautiful purple blossom trees that line the streets. The city is the cultural centre of the country, with many important historical buildings and sites, as well as fascinating museums. The imposing Union Buildings are the official seat of government and house the President's office in Gauteng. You will enjoy lunch in Pretoria after your tour. We then make our way to Sun City, where we will be staying for the next 2 nights. The Sun City resort has a renowned reputation within the international community and is highly regarded as a world class entertainment venue that caters for a large range of foreign and local visitors. The complex hosts numerous facilities such as casino, a variety of gourmet restaurants scattered on the property in varying settings, 2 leading golf courses and extensive sports facilities. Over the years this resort has hosted star-studded spectaculars and the current brand ambassador is the Hollywood sensation and Oscar Winning Charlize Theron. In addition the property hosts many water-based and outdoor activities that appeal to both the young and young-at-heart adventure seeking and sun loving individuals.
DAY 3 Sun City - Pilanesburg National Park Safari

Early morning wake up call for your safari in Pilanesberg National Park, South Africa's fourth largest Big 5 game reserve. The reserve is situated in the crater of a long extinct volcano and has an attractive landscape comprising rocky outcrops, open grasslands, wooded valleys and dense thickets. Mankwe Dam, a lake in the middle of the park, offers excellent bird watching from creatively constructed hides. You will be taken on an informative game drive through the park as your ranger points out the host of mammals, other animals and plants to be seen here. Return to the hotel in time for breakfast. Rest of the day is spent at leisure enjoying the facilities Sun City offers.
DAY 4 Sun City - Port Elizabeth via Johannesburg

After breakfast at the hotel say farewell to the staff of Sun City and head back to OR Tambo International Airport, where you will proceed to Domestic Departures for your flight to Port Elizabeth. On arrival at Port Elizabeth Airport you will be met by a local representative and be transferred to the hotel where you will spend the night. Port Elizabeth is known as the 'Water Sport Capital of Africa'. The combination of heavenly shores and invigorating sea breezes draw sports lovers to enjoy some of the planet's best sailing, surfing and scuba-diving.
DAY 5 Port Elizabeth - Knysna via Tsitsikamma National Park

This morning after breakfast say good-bye to the friendly city and travel along the coast towards Knysna. We set out for the Garden Route. A very beautiful route, with the Indian Ocean on your left, mountains and green, rolling hills on your right. Your first destination is the stunning Tsitsikamma National Park. Tsitsikamma means 'place of much water' in Khoi. A combination of original forest, plantations and Fynbos - a large group of plants endemic to South Africa, of which our National Flower the King Protea is a prominent member. Many rivers run through the forest, forming spectacular waterfalls and deep gorges. Enjoy an easy walk through the forest and along the suspension bridge, crossing the Storms River Mouth gorge. (entrance fee to the National Park not included) Later we arrive in Knysna, famous for its lagoon, oysters and over 800 year old iron and stinkwood trees. This evening you will enjoy a sunset cruise on the lagoon.
DAY 6 Oudtshoorn - Ostrich Farm and Cango Caves

Today travel north to Oudtshoorn via the spectacular Outeniqua Pass. With more than 90% of the globe's population of ostrich found here, the town is known as the World's 'ostrich-capital'; and we will of course visit an Ostrich Farm to learn more about these giant birds and the history of their farming in this area. From there we will continue onto the picturesque Cango Valley, where we will explore the world famous Cango Caves. After a full day of sightseeing we make our way back to our hotel in Knysna.
DAY 7 Knysna - Cape Town via Route 62

This morning we head towards Cape Town along one of the country's most beautiful routes and also the world's longest wine route, Route 62. Arrive in Cape Town in the early evening, check into your hotel and the rest of the evening will be spent at leisure.
DAY 8 Cape Town - City Orientation Tour

Some of the highlight stops on this tour will be the Company Gardens, the Castle of Good Hope and the lively Greenmarket Square - where you can purchase arts and crafts from all over Africa. You will also take a trip through the colourful Bo Kaap area, known as the home of the 'Cape Malays'. Weather permitting, you could choose the option of an afternoon trip up Cape Town's landmark, Table Mountain, for sunset or possibly take the scheduled tour to Robben Island. The remainder of the day will be spent at leisure at the vibrant Victoria and Alfred Waterfront, which offers a wide variety of shops, restaurants and entertainment.
DAY 9 Cape Town - Cape Peninsula Tour

Full day excursion to the magnificent scenery and wildlife of the Cape Peninsula. This tour includes a boat trip to Duiker Island, where thousands of Cape Fur Seals live, and later a lunch in the cosy Naval village of Simon's Town. We will visit Boulders Beach to see one of South Africa's two land-based African Penguin colonies and then continue along the False Bay coastline to the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve. Have your photos taken at the most south western tip of the African continent and enjoy an invigorating walk, or leisurely funicular trip, up to the Cape Point lighthouses to admire the dramatic cliffs and amazing views. The day ends at the beautiful Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens.
DAY 10 Cape Town - at leisure

You will have today at leisure, and can choose between a wide variety of optional tours or activities. Alternatively you may decide to spend the day at the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront to enjoy some shopping and the many other attractions and activities on offer here - the Aquarium, boat trips and scenic helicopter flips to name a few.
